Access Statement


St Annes is traditional listed grade 2 Cotswold Stone house dating from the 17th century but with later additions.  The guest rooms are all located on the first floor.  The configuration of the stairs does pose a significant trip hazard.

At check-in Guests shown to their rooms where the facilities are explained and a file with information on emergencies is available.  They are given their own front door key.

There is a fire extinguisher within the property.  The landing and dining room both have smoke detectors.  In the event of fire/evacuation, a plan showing an escape route can be found in the Guest Information Folder.    There are torches each of the bedrooms.

Dogs can be accommodated in one of our rooms only.  We also have 2 small terrier dogs.

Guests are requested to inform us of their breakfast preference the evening before and of any food allergies/intolerances.  We always have dairy free milk available and gluten free bread on request.  We will endeavor to meet allergy requirements.

Location and Parking

As it is a village location, parking on the road outside the property is limited.  Guests are advised to park on the left hand side of Gloucester Street which is a one way street.  The free unrestricted but limited parking starts 20 metres from the house.   There is also a village car park which is free.  The car park is located in Stamages Lane.  It is approximately 320 metres away from the house.  Assistance with luggage can be arranged.  Road outside the property has a slight incline.  There is one street light approximately 20 metres away.

Outside Property

Narrow pavement between the house and the road (B4073).  Locked front door with buzzer to the right hand side.  2 steps down into the hallway (16cm).  Wide hall, well lit. Outside light above door.  Bicycle storage in the hall, boot room.

Ground Floor

Front door width – 83cm.  Level hallway leading to dining room.
Dining room door width – 83cm.
Normally one large table for shared breakfast. Guests might be asked to share depending upon occupancy.  Staircase with on the left hand side bannister to upper floors.
14 steps up from dining room to landing on the first floor.  Risers vary from 16cm to 18cm.   Treads vary from 20cm to 25cm. Hall has a stone tile floor, the dining room has a wood floor and the stairs and landing all have fitted carpets.  There is door to the staircase with one step hazard leading to the kitchen.

First Floor

Red Room - king size double with four poster bed.  door width – 78cm.
Fireplace with small tiled inset.  Feather filled pillows and duvet. Wool duvet and anti-allergy pillows on request.
Cotton bedding.  Fitted carpet.  Lockable door from inside.
En Suite door width – 21cm. Step up into the ensuite.  Restricted space in the ensuite, very small.
Shower cubicle – tray height 21cm, WC.  Vinyl flooring. Sink in the bedroom separately.

Yellow Room  - kingsize double - door width – 78cm.
Feather filled pillows and wool duvet. Anti-allergy pillows on request.
Cotton bedding.  Fitted pure wool carpet.  Lockable door from inside.
En Suite door width – 21cm.
Shower cubicle – tray height 26cm, WC and wash basin.  Vinyl flooring.

Blue Room - twin door width – 73cm.
Feather filled duvets and pillows, Anti-allergy pillows and duvets on request. Ensuite bathroom with shower cubicle - step up, toilet and sink.
Fitted carpet.  Lockable door from inside.



We are 4 miles north of Stroud just off the A46 in the centre of Painswick.  Stroud has a mainline railway station with hourly trains to London.  We are 12 miles south of Cheltenham and 7 miles east of Gloucester.  Painswick is served by an hourly (daytime) bus from both Cheltenham and Stroud.   The M5 motorway is 5 miles.  Bristol airport is the closest airport (45 miles to the south).    Guests should make their own enquiries with regard to timetables but we recommend the Traveline website.
